Held Family Endowed Scholarship
The Held Family Endowed Scholarship supports students looking to become teachers that will stand for Christian values in K-12 schools. The Held family created their endowment in 2000 with the purpose of helping to put more Christian teachers in classrooms across the country.
The Held’s connection to NU began with two family members who graduated from ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ (George and Shawn Held). George and his wife, Diane, spent many years working in early childhood education in the Pacific Northwest. In their roles, they saw firsthand the need to have Christian teachers interacting with children.
The entire family embraced their dream of a scholarship fund that would help lighten the financial burden for those with a calling to teach. This scholarship fund is a living tribute to members of the family that have gone to be with the Lord (Dan Held, Janice Held, Helen Held, Diane Held, Norman and Betty Steyer). In this world, so many children do not have Godly parents and need that one teacher who loves the Lord. That teacher is on the mission field. One Christian teacher who can show and share God’s love can make a lasting impression.
The goal of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to give teachers the ability to complete the requirements for teacher certification. The Held family’s fervent prayer is that this scholarship will grow and bless many students in years to come.
Teaching is a special calling and gift. Young teachers are role models for our impressionable kids. We need teachers to reach kids for Jesus and make a difference in the curriculum presented in our schools daily.
