H.B. Walkup Memorial Scholarship
The HB Walkup Memorial Scholarship was created in 1992 following the death of Homer B. Walkup to assist young people studying for full-time ministry.
Homer Walkup started in the ministry in the Rocky Mountain District, at the age of 19 and newly married to Rachel! He pastored three churches in that District and resigned from the church in Brush, Colorado to move to Idaho in 1938. The Walkup's pioneered a church at Donnelly, which is near McCall, following their move to Idaho. They pastored several other churches in Idaho. Homer became C.A. Secretary-Treasurer and soon after became the District Secretary-Treasurer. He was on the Board of Directors at (then) Northwest College for approximately 20 years and was in a leadership position in the Southern Idaho District throughout his ministry.
Rev. Walkup became the Southern Idaho District Superintendent in 1966 and filled that position until his semi-retirement in 1981. Until his death, he was actively involved as Senior's Minister at the Twin Falls First Assembly of God Church.
Homer was a great conversationalist and never met anyone he could not talk to. He was an accomplished and self-taught musician. He could play any musical instrument he picked up, but was a great guitarist, both on Spanish and steel guitars. He loved music and was also a good vocalist and worship leader. Homer was an outdoorsman, always had horses, hunted, and fished. But his greatest joy was his mission to serve his God and God's people. The family's hope is that this fund continues to grow and become a lasting memorial in honor of a great man of God.
