Background
Kate Orr earned her BFA in recording from ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and her MFA in Sound Design and Technology from UNC School of the Arts. She now uses the knowledge she has gained from her two degrees to teach sound from a Christian perspective. Discussing basic mixing techniques or how sound is used in the Bible, Kate strives to teach students that their talents were not a mistake, but a gift from God, and should be cultivated to glorify Him. She was trained by Steve Smith (fellow faculty member of Creatio) and Wade Wilson (known for sound designing Elf, Shrek, Hunger Games, and The Perfect Storm). Kate is beyond blessed to have learned from two amazing mentors. While in graduate school Kate worked on multiple video games, short films, and plays as the sound designer. She also had the privilege of being the supervising sound designer for Lyn Nottage’s play “Sweat” that got filmed during the season of distance learning.
Outside of her graduate experience, Kate felt called to start her own post-production company “AppleCorr Productions,” with the intent of showing clients that entertainment could be created and done in a way that reflects God through every aspect of the post-production process, not just a select few. She now also teaches those same principles in her classroom, with the Creatio goal in mind, of preparing students to be “Ready to Work.” When Kate isn’t teaching or working on an “AppleCorr Productions” project, she can be found watching movies, playing video games, or playing with her cat Ruby.
